Quality Assurance Service


The Quality Assurance Department is situated within the main Pharmacy.

Staffing

The QA team consists of the following (these are not all full-time posts):

QA Pharmacist (Grade F)
Deputy QA Pharmacist (Grade D)
Senior Pharmacy Technician (MTO 4)
Senior Pharmacy Technician (MTO 3)
Rotational Pharmacy Technician (MTO 1 or 2)
Medical Laboratory Assistant

Activities

Quality assurance advice, monitoring and testing is provided to the MCA ‘Specials’ licenced Aseptic Services Unit and, on a contractual basis, to other local NHS and Private Sector hospitals.

Monitoring of medicine storage and distribution is carried out as part of the Pharmacy’s MCA wholesale licence commitments.

All unlicenced medications, purchased by Pharmacy, are assessed before use to ensure only appropriate quality products are administered to patients.

Regular and non-routine medical gas testing done for this Trust + other hospitals.

Advice is provided to Trust staff and other healthcare professionals on pharmaceutical quality and stability.

Research projects are carried out on a wide range of topics including formulation, stability and storage issues.

The Quality Assurance Department carries out training of Pre-registration Pharmacists (from several Trusts) and Student Technicians in a wide range of quality assurance related techniques.

Professional QA support is provided via a contractual relationship with the East Anglian Academic Pharmacy Practise Unit based in Norwich.
